Today we did an INB grade check for China.  We also finished up our group activity and graded our numeral systems.   We received our benchmark review hand-out and homework is to complete pages 1 and 2 (page numbers to find the information is in the parenthesis).  We will complete the last page for Monday’s homework.

Our opener today was page 309 #1 and 2 and “test yourself” page 315 #1 -6.  We continued to work on our group activity and will be sharing it next class.  Homework: read “ode of Mu-lan” pages 310 – 311, chapter 12 sections 1 -3 and answer questions number 1 and 2 only on pages 323, 328 and 333.

Last class we had a hand out on the rise and fall of Chinese Empires.  Today, we discussed December 7, 1941, updated our INB grade sheet, completed a 54321 on chapter 11 section 1 and worked on our numeral system project with our partners.  Homework is to complete a 54321 chapter 11 section 2 and find out why Empress Wu is important to Chinese history?

Today we watched a power point on China’s 3 belief systems and completed a hand – out.  Our homework is to complete a hand-out on the rise and fall of Chinese Empires.  We continued to work on our numeral systems, which will be due by the end of class next time.  Lastly, we received our quizzes back.

Today we did:

A journal opener :  #1.  In 6th grade, you learned about ancient China.  What do you remember and has that impacted the way you see China today?  #2.  What do you  know about current day China and would you like to visit or live there – why or why not?

Classwork: Read pages 280 – 285 and answer questions  1 – 6.  Read “Chapter Summary” on page 287 and answer questions 1 – 5 in “Test Yourself”.

We spent time this week comparing and contrasting the Aztec, Maya and Inca civilizations.  We presented our facts in groups for the entire class to review as well.  On Friday, we took our quiz and had an INB check.  No homework on Friday or Tuesday.

Today we self tested what we knew about MesoAmerica (page 207 1-5, 233 1-6 and 259 1-5).  We then finished watching Madagascar (from our unit on Africa).  Our homework is to read sections 1 and 2 of chapter 10 (we start China on Friday!) and answer questions 1- 3 page 273 and 1 – 4 page 279.

Don’t forget we have a quiz on MesoAmerica on Wed.  Study the farming techniques, religion and social structure of the Aztec, Inca and Maya people.  Also, know your maps – study them both.

We shared our Inca, Maya and Aztec travel brochure presentations on Thursday.  Excellent job!   Make sure you are checking IC.  Homework was a hand-out on sharing information on what you learned from the homework reading and presentations.  This week we will be completing an activity to get us ready for our Maya, Inca and Aztec quiz on Wed.  Friday we start discussing China!
